The Mining Code 2023 (Law No.1/19) is the primary law governing the mining sector in Burundi. The code regulates all prospecting operations, exploration, industrial and artisanal exploitation, beneficiation, possession, transport, and sale of mineral and fossil substances in Burundi. The regulatory framework for the sector includes the Mining Code 2023, Decree 100/193 on Mining Rules and Decree number 100/224 of which guides on the application of the mining code. The official language of the primary law is French. There code has no official language translations. The Ministry of Hydraulics, Energy and Mines is the government entity regulating the mining sector in Burundi. The country's mining contracts are available at: resourcecontracts.org.
