Summary
The Minerals (Prospecting and Mining) Act (Law No. 33 of 1992) regulates the prospecting, exploration and mining of minerals in Namibia. There is an amendment to the Act of 1992 known as the Minerals (Prospecting and Mining) Amendment Act 8 of 2008. The regulatory framework for the sector also includes the Diamonds Act 1999, Minerals Development Fund of Namibia Act 1996, and the Mines, Workers and Minerals Ordinance 20 of 1968. The official version of the primary law is in English and there are no official translations of this law into other languages. The government regulating entity is the Ministry of Mines and Energy (http://www.mme.gov.na/). The country’s mining contracts are not available at resourcecontracts.org.
